Opening up a perspective!

If you have carefully read the pages of African Angel e.V., you will understand how much the children from Bukom depend on our help. And it is vital for these children that the help does not cease over night. For the organization African Angel e.V., who has taken over the responsibility for this, this clearly means: We have to ensure long-term and sustained financial support. Only sustaining memberships, sponsorships and company memberships place us in a position to reliably plan the future for the children and the project! But of course, we warmly welcome any other donation, be it monetary or in-kind. Anything is welcome, but the primary need of the children of Bukom is a long-term perspective for their lives, that must be founded on solid financial ground. Please bear this in mind if you consider supporting the project for the children of Bukom!

With an annual membership fee of 60.00 EUR you can make our work for the children of Bukom more powerful. This is only 5.00 EUR per month!

Sustaining membership

As a sustaining member you agree to support African Angel regularly with a sum higher than the basic membership fee. You thus contribute to significantly strengthening the charity, ensuring the existence of the childrens home and the financial resources for paying tuition fees. Additionally, your contributions may be used for highly needed purchases or replacements within the home. A sustaining membership starts from 120,- per year.

Company membership

Company memberships are available for companies, independent institutions and groups of all kinds. They demonstrate their willingness to support the charitys aims by giving an increased contribution. The annual fee is 365,- . A company member can nominate up to three representatives, but has only one vote, just as any single member.

Single donations

We warmly welcome single donations. Any, even the smallest contribution, helps us in reaching our goals. Our 52 children are growing and have to be regularly fed and kept healthy. Throughout the past year, prices for food and hygiene items rose considerably. As an alternative to becoming a member or a godparent, you are therefore very welcome to make single donations at any time without any further commitment.

The list below shows you the monthly expenses for groceries and gas for all 52 children.

Company sponsorship

Present your company or your institution as a good citizen to the public: Sign a sponsorship contract as a Corporate Citizen with African Angel for long-term commitment. Support the education of the children of Bukom! Support self-empowerment!
You offer purpose-related financial support and / or purpose-related provision of goods or purpose-related provision of services to African Angel in a recurring or non-recurring fashion, to the end of developing our childrens situation according to the aims of the association.
The African Angel association grants you the right to advertise with your good deeds after separate agreement with the association, and will take its best efforts to your support.

Child sponsorship agreements

You can enter into a child sponsorship either in addition to a regular membership, or separately. In any case, you will support a child from Bukom, whose name will be known to you, with a monthly contribution. We set a high value on the godparents being in regular contact with their child (by letter, by phone or even in person), and of them supporting their godchild not only financially in its educational journey. Most of the children still have parents, but contact with their godparents enormously boosts their self-esteem and psychic balance!

You are interested in a child sponsorship? We are happy about this, but we are also happy that we now have found godparents for all 52 children in our care. But you will surely have read our page Aims and thus know about our ambition to open up chances for education to more children we currently have about 600 children on our waiting list. Pocket money

Since our children never had money at their own disposition they never learned how to handle it. We try to teach them how to carefully deal with money through our pocket money programme. All children under the age of 13 currently receive 1 Ghana-Cedi (about 50 Eurocents) weekly, all children above 13 receive 2 Ghana-Cedi per week. They are encouraged to make small extra purchases using this money, or to save it. A number of children is already using individual savings accounts at the local bank for this [49, 50]. Would you like to support this programme? If so, please transfer a purpose-related non-recurring donation to our bank account or set up a standing order. Please choose an amount (2.00 / 4.00 or 24.00 /48.00 ) and state the desired purpose in the transfer orders subject line (Pocket money child under 13 or Pocket money child over 13).

School fees

Education is the centre piece of our efforts for the children of Bukom. This is why we want the childrens talent to be fostered at the best schools. These schools are not cheap. Including tuition fees, a school uniform [51, 52, 53]], books and other utensils, we have to allow an amount of 450.00 per child and year. If you would like to ensure the school education of a child for a year, we would ask you to make a purpose-related transfer of 450.00 to our bank account, stating School fees Bukom as the purpose.

School buses

Since the children visit different schools that are also relatively distant, two school busses have been donated so far [54, 55, 56, 57]. Their maintenance costs (including fuel) amount to 200 monthly and per vehicle. So you are very welcome to support our childrens transportation with a purpose-related single or recurring donation. Should you wish to do this, please transfer your donation with the key word School busses in the subject line to our account.

In-kind donations

A word of information first: Of course we will be happy about in-kind donations, but our possibilities to store these donations are limited. The African Angel office is very small, and we need every little bit of space for our work. In addition, shipment of these goods is a big challenge for our small community (as this includes packing, transport, preparation of shipment and importation documents, customs clearance at the Ghana seaport, transport to the home) .Therefore, please kindly understand that we only are interested in the following in-kind donations:

Schoolbags or backpacks, sports shoes, writing utensils , board games (chess, checkers, nine mens morris, etc.), bathroom mats, towels, bed linen and English language childrens books for children between 4 and 18 years (because turnover rate of these items is high with our children).

In addition, our children need
2 ping pong tables with net, rackets, and balls, 2 height adjustable basket ball baskets, cycling helmets, and tennis rackets, balls and a tennis net.
And for our favourite sport football: footballs, football training bibs (always 11 of the same colour for all players of a team), team wear consisting of matching shirts and shorts (16 of each for a team), goalkeepers shirts and shoes (plus goalkeepers shorts in two different colours), goalkeepers gloves (for ages below 12, below 14 and below 17 years), football boots, shin pads, team socks (16 identical pairs for a team), goal nets, sports bags, and all other kinds of football equipment.

Silverware (pre-owned or new). A part of the childrens education is the correct use of knife, fork, and spoon. The silverware currently in use is of low quality and tastes of metal. We would like to offer silverware of a better quality.

Meat mincing machine (pre-owned or new, motor-driven). For some of the childrens regular dishes minces meat has to be prepared. As the amount needed for 52 children is considerable, this is quite a strain for our kitchen staff. We would like to lighten their workload by acquiring a professional mincing machine, as it is used in canteen kitchens.

Vegetable choppers (pre-owned or new). Here we are having the same problem. To prepare the considerable amount of chopped veg for all meals is troublesome and time-consuming. Professional kitchen tools exist for this purpose, that could considerably ease the task of our kitchen ladies. To these, as well as to all following tools applies the same: We need tools of good quality and durability for heavy-duty work.

Plumpers snakes (pre-owned or new). Pipes and drains for 52 children need regular maintenance. The low-cost devices of Chinese origin that we bought quit their job after a short period of use. Now we would like to replace them with devices of German manufacturers. The snakes diameter should be between 16 and 22 millimetres!

Small kitchen appliances (pre-owned or new). Also these items we had to purchase at lowest price and quality. Especially our knifes wear off extremely rapidly under constant use. Our women cook professionally for 52 children but have to use lowest quality appliances. So in case you have access to professional tools for canteen kitchens, we will be thankful for respective donations!
