The Project
Help to self-support
Within the rules these are the aims of African Angel e. V., we are concentrating all our efforts only on one project at present. This is the long-term education and professional training and awareness of the children from Bukom, using financial, material and moral means.
To do this, it was primarily necessary, to assemble the parents of those children, in order to inform them, ask for their support, at the same time heightening their awareness about the project we wanted to start. This extremely difficult job had to be done by Harriet Bruce-Annan.
In doing so, she was confronted with fears, and strong criticisms from the parents. Some of the local inhabitants in Bukom, joined forces with the parents to oppose the project. as they suspected that she wanted to sell their children to America! This is understandable.
Nevertheless, Harriet Bruce-Annan used a traditional and methodical approach, with her charisma, charm and honesty to reach the hearts and confidence of these parents. Finally, she succeeded in convincing some of the parents to look towards having a good future for their children. She was then able to facilitate and managed to arrange a constructive meeting.
The outcome was good. She selected 26 boys and girls, between the ages of 4 to 11years of age. Those children parents felt comfortable to entrust them into her care. The children faces told the story.
How Harriet managed to secure and rent a house in a decent district of the capital, Accra, how she also found good Schools and Kindergartens and secured places for these children, is another (very long) story. We are unable to tell because of space on the website.
But what does it means to concentrate only on one project? It simply means, that we are focused, and demonstrate our commitment to consolidate the project we have started in the organisation. It also does not mean that we will not be unable, to find a way, to enhanced the present status of the project in the future. On the contrary, it is one of our goals for the way forward.
The number of children in Bukom who do not have access to education and professional development training is very high. At present we have approximately 300 children on our waiting list. As things progress, in the organisation in the future, we will try to continue and maintain good and open dialogue in what so ever is done and accomplished within the organisation. Updating our forward planning projects and programme-contents, examine and improve facilities, technical equipment’s, and the numbers of qualified as well as Voluntary and or paid staff etc., working in the organisation.
This would enable us to foster, promote, encourage and maintain a good and open relationship, with our many Members and Donors. We would continue to enhance the already good Team Spirit present in the organisation. The outcome would be, the result of continuos, good, and a pleasant and long lasting working relationship in an environment appreciated by all those involved in the project, but even more so, by the children entrusted in our care from Bukom.
