Harriets Dream
Once upon a time in Accra, the capital of Ghana to be precisely in Africa; it all started with the big dream of a little girl. The girl Harriet Dansowaa Ani-Agyei (Bruce-Annan) lived in one of the so-called ´good´ districts of Accra. She frequently visited her grandma in Bukom. Her grandma still lives in Bukom, one of the poorest areas of the capital. What little Harriet saw in Bukom, was very different from what her life was in Adabraka.
There were kids of her age who did not have enough food, no clean and proper cloth, slept with many other kids on the naked floor; and what appeared to her worst of all, was they had no money in order to attend school to have an education.
During these visits, in her heart and her mind a dream was born. One day she would be in the position to help the children of Bukom! Many years later fate led her to Germany, to the city of Düsseldorf, capital of the province Northrhine-Westfalia. During this time the former little princess was confronted with the harsh realities of life and had to give up most of her ambitious plans for her own future. But she never, even during the harshest periods of her experiences, ever lost that great childhood dream, to help those children from Bukom.
To make this dream come true, she went through the greatest hardships, humiliations and sacrifices. She was and is the ´Engine´ of the non-profit registered Association African Angel e.V. In Germany. It is the dream of her life and she is an African Angel! And that too, makes her a very special and unique person, as well as, she also understands how to plant her human ideas into the hearts of so many other people.
Wherever she speaks about the children from Bukom and her project, she is full of inner emotion, leaving not a single person left untouched. If she speaks to a crowd, everybody feels personally addressed by her warm and sympathetic words, which seem to come right from her heart. Doing this, she was able to assemble a number of qualified people around her, who do the things she does not like at all: administration or accounting, for example.
You see, after all Harriet Bruce-Annan is still a human being!
